KANSAS STATE CHAPTER
Delta Upsilon is a chapter that values community involvement along with philanthropic events. We are heavily involved within the community through a variety of organizations. The Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Green Apple Bikes are some foundations DU proudly supports. Along with these, Delta Upsilon has two main philanthropy events that we host each year. In the fall is the Delta Upsilon Pancake Feed and in the spring is our notorious Miss K-State Competition. All proceeds from all our Philanthropies go towards foundations like those listed above, or DU's international philanthropy; The Global Service Initiative.
MISS K-STATE
Delta Upsilon Fraternity hosts its annual Miss K-State Competition each April in McCain Auditorium. This event enables organizations to represent themselves and showcase one of their outstanding, well-rounded members who signifies talent, confidence, class, and excellence at its finest. The purpose of this Competition is to showcase the outstanding women in the K-State student body, while empowering contestants to make a lasting impact and ultimately assist in providing a role model for young girls in the Manhattan community. The Miss K-State Competition intends to highlight the well-rounded women in the Wildcat family and celebrate their campus pride, personal ambitions, talents and intelligence. The hope for the event is to not only allow organizations to feature an exceptional woman in their membership, but to also raise money for the betterment of underdeveloped communities abroad, through the Delta Upsilon Global Service Initiative. In our latest Miss K-State, which was held on April 11th, 2017 we raised $13,102. This ranks the Kansas State Delta Upsilon chapter as the biggest donation toward the Global Service Initiative in the country as well ranks us as one of the largest philanthropies on campus with over 1,000 people in attendance. PANCAKE FEST
Each fall Delta Upsilon partners with a local sorority to host its annual Pancake Feed. The Pancake Feed features many donations from the community including the Milling Science Club, as well as Hy-Vee to help us maximize our profits. During the Pancake Fest community members are invited to have “all you can eat” pancakes and Sausage in the Delta Upsilon dining room. In our Fall 2019 Pancake Feed, which we partnered with Alpha Delta Pi, our fraternity proudly raised over $2,400 to donate to the Boys and Girls Club of Manhattan.
GSI
The Global Service Initiative (GSI) is unique and Delta Upsilon is proud to have developed this initiative. It serves a dual role in that it is not only the international philanthropy, but also the international service project of the Fraternity. DU developed GSI because we realized it was important for the Fraternity to create experiences that prepare men for success in a new global environment. The idea for GSI came from a challenge from the Board, and was then presented to the Fraternity at the Leadership Institute in 2011 and the Undergraduate Advisory Board voted to approve GSI as the official philanthropy and service of DU. The International Fraternity chose to create this experience in Jamaica because we have the relationships necessary to work with the local government, to connect with local schools and to engage with the local culture. Not only does GSI offer members a unique opportunity to engage in direct service in developing nations and in the United States, but it also encourages members to unite their actions with the Principles of the Fraternity both while serving in Jamaica, and back home in the States.
